“I am homesick for the Europe I once knew. The Europe of diverse connections between people of different nations and the Europe of self-evident, lived democracy. Brexit or not – the United Kingdom is simply part of this Europe. And it belongs to the history and present of our federal state of Lower Saxony. The British invented Lower Saxony 75 years ago, so to speak. They have shaped our state and our everyday life more than most of us realise.
That is what drives me: I want to maintain and reshape this connection. I want to bring people together who might otherwise never have met. Encounters are what make up our lives. I want to make people curious about us!
My HANNOVER GIN©-BRITISH CONNECTION is a connection between two countries. It is distilled from plants and herbs from Great Britain and Hanover. When I open my letterbox and complete strangers from the UK send us flowers to Germany that they have picked themselves, I get goosebumps.
Now, Brexit has been a fait accompli for two years. Moreover, the pandemic has turned us back on ourselves more than is good for a vibrant Europe. Now is the time to build a new community, bring people back together more, start conversations and help shape our European society.”

The gin barrel is brought back to Hanover - from town hall to town hall - and received there by the Lord Mayor. After acceptance by customs, the barrel is tapped in the distillery and the gin bottled.
At the same time: visitors from Bristol in Hanover, festive reception, rugby sports tournament with British and Hanoverian clubs.
